Here is a list of the must-have best tools, utilities and applications currently available for PC. These tools were all tested on Windows 7 and most would run on Windows XP and Vista.

Anti-Virus
AVG Free - a free anti-virus package that earned it's place as one of the best in the field
Panda USB Vaccine - protects USB flash drives from being infected by autorun.inf viruses

Backup
Robocopy (also part of Vista and Windows 7) - when used properly and as part of a scheduled task, very fast and efficient

Download Managers
DAP - Download Accelerator Plus - Adware with one window at start-up and banner-ads at the bottom of the download screen - unobtrusive.

File management
WinRAR
FreeCommander
Subversion (SVN) with Tortoise SVN - share and sync files between co-workers to a server with version control and file-locking ability. Great for coding environments.
MyDefrag - Free - defrag your hard drive efficiently and effectively with this tool that can be scheduled with different
WinDirStat - Free - shows a graphical display of all the files on your hard drive. Useful to find large files hidden deep within directory structures.

Piriform Speccy
Microsoft Resource Monitor - displays CPU usage, hard drive activity, network activity and memory usage per process with graphs and filters. Useful to find programs that are slowing you PC down or eating your bandwidth.
